The badly decomposed body of Jenna Lord, 23, of Collingdale, Pennsylvania was found in a vacant lot in Camden, New Jersey on Sunday by an uncle of the slain woman. Described as a troubled woman, Lord disappeared on the morning of July 5, while waiting for a train that was to have brought her home to her family.

According to Jason Laughlin, a spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Lord was dressed in the same clothing that she was wearing when she went missing.

The young woman’s mother, Desiree Caruso, missed a phone call that was placed by her daughter while she was waiting at the train station. When Caruso dialed back the unfamiliar cell phone number, a man answered. He said that he had allowed Jenna to use his phone and had helped her to buy a train ticket. He acknowledged that she “looked a little scared” when he left her to board his train.

Surveillance video at the train station showed Lord being followed closely by two men who appeared to be talking to her. She continued to walk away from them as they moved out of camera viewing range.

The family was vocal in suggesting that police were not doing enough to find her because of her criminal past. She had a previous marijuana arrest and was charged with assault earlier this year. She was the mother of a 3-year-old son.

Camden Police Chief John Scott Thomson, sensitive to the accusations made by the family, released a short statement: “In addition to investigative efforts and continuous radio police broadcasts, Camden City police officers were on foot, distributing flyers and searching with family members during yesterday’s discovery. The Camden Police Department is assisting the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office with the investigation into Jenna’s cause of death.”
